Soldier from Redding killed in Iraq

Wednesday November 05, 2003

REDDING, Calif. (AP) — A U.S. Army soldier from Redding was killed in action in Iraq this week, the Department of Defense confirmed Wednesday.

The soldier was assigned to a unit operating in the Sunni Triangle region northwest of Baghdad when he was killed. Officials said his family had been notified and his name would be released after all next of kin had been informed.

He is the latest in a growing number of California service members to die in Operation Iraqi Freedom since the war began in March.

California has lost more soldiers in Iraq than any other state. Redding and Shasta County have sent hundreds of their sons and daughters to serve in the conflict.

Memorial services were pending.
