Saturday September 28, 2002
ANAHEIM, Calif. (AP) Fredrik Olausson scored in his first
exhibition game with Anaheim as the Mighty Ducks defeated the San
Jose Sharks 5-2 Friday night.
Olausson, who had a groin injury dating back to last season's
Stanley Cup playoffs, gave Anaheim a 3-1 lead in the second period.
He signed with the Mighty Ducks as a free agent after helping the
Detroit Red Wings win the Stanley Cup in June.
San Jose narrowed the deficit to 3-2 on Patrick Marleau's
power-play goal in the second period, but Anaheim's Alexei Smirnov
scored to put the Ducks ahead by two again.
Stanislav Chistov's power-play goal ended the scoring in the
third period.
Marco Sturm put the Sharks ahead nine seconds into the game.
Paul Kariya tied the score, then Marc Chouinard gave the Ducks a
2-1 lead with a power-play goal at 16:32 in the first.
Anaheim goalie Jean-Sebastien Giguere made 18 saves.
San Jose goalies Mikka Kiprusoff and Vesa Toskala combined for
22 saves, with Kiprusoff making 12.
