LONG BEACH, Calif. (AP) Todd Jennings hit his fifth home run
of the season as the Long Beach State 49ers defeated the Pepperdine
Waves 6-1 Friday in game two of the NCAA Baseball Regional.
Long Beach State (39-18) got on the board on the first pitch to
Jennings in the bottom of the first inning as the leadoff hitter
extended his personal hit streak to 24 games.
The 49ers would add two more runs in the inning to take a 3-0
lead.
Abe Alvarez (11-1) allowed just one run on four hits and four
walks in seven innings for the win.
Jennings factored in two of the 49ers final three runs as well,
knocking in singles in the fourth and the eighth innings to finish
the day 2-for-4 with three RBI.
Pepperdine scored in the seventh when Chris Kelly, who got on
base with a double to center field scored on a walk to Patrick
Rooney. Jacob Barrack (9-3) allowed six runs, five of them earned.
Long Beach faces Washington Saturday. The Waves (36-24) face
Minnesota in the first elimination game.
