Richland National, Wash. 5, Pearl City, Hawaii 0
Tuesday August 12, 2003
SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. (AP) Kyle Stumetz scattered four hits
and struck out four Monday, to lead Richland National of Washington
to a 5-0 victory over Peal City, Hawaii, and the team's first ever
berth in the Little League World Series.
Stumetz used a variety of off-speed pitches to keep Pearl City
hitters off balance throughout the game, while his teammates played
solid defense behind him. Left fielder Quinn Zorich's diving catch
in the final inning snuffed out a Pearl City rally.
Pearl City, whose fans attended the game adorned in hula skirts
and leis, had come into the game 5-0 in the round-robin tournament,
including four come-from-behind victories, one of them a 2-1 win
against Richland National.
Richland National will represent the Northwest in the Little
League World Series, which begins Thursday in Williamsport, Pa.
