PALM DESERT, Calif. (AP) Los Angeles Clippers rookie center
Chris Kaman was sidelined Sunday for the second time at training
camp, nursing a strained left calf and is questionable for
Tuesday's preseason opener at Sacramento.
Kaman sat out of Sunday's final session at College of the
Desert. Second-year guard Marko Jaric, who sat out of Saturday's
scrimmage with a sprained shoulder, was back in action Sunday.
As the Clippers return to Los Angeles for practice at Staples
Center on Monday, new coach Mike Dunleavy assessed their time in
the desert as positive.
``I felt like we got a lot accomplished,'' Dunleavy said. ``The
games begin now and that's when the real evaluation kind of
starts.''
Dunleavy said he expects to take 16 or 17 of the 19 players on
the training camp roster to the opening preseason game against the
Sacramento Kings depending on the amount of injuries.
Veteran Corey Maggette said he was particularly impressed with
Kaman, especially because he came into camp hurt with a herniated
disk.
``Chris Kaman was very active,'' said Maggette of the team's top
draft pick from Central Michigan. ``He came in, he was hurt, but he
ran and did all the stuff every day. He's going to be a big impact
for our team.
