KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (AP) Shyra Ely had 17 points and nine
rebounds and Gwen Jackson added 13 points as Tennessee advanced to
its 22nd straight round of 16 with an 81-51 win over Virginia in
the Mideast Regional on Monday night.
The top-seeded Lady Vols (30-4) improved their NCAA home record
to 42-0.
Tennessee, also hosting the regional, will play the winner of
Tuesday night's game between South Carolina and Penn State.
The No. 8 seed Cavaliers (17-14) struggled the entire game to
contain Tennessee's offense. The Lady Vols led 33-24 at halftime
and increased it to 17 before Virginia pulled within 12 with 10:45
remaining. Tennessee, having no desire to make the game close, went
on an 18-4 run to increase its lead to 26.
Cherrise Graham scored 14 points for the Cavaliers, who shot 27
percent (17-of-61) from the floor.<
^Colorado 86, North Carolina 67=
BOULDER, Colo. (AP) Tera Bjorklund scored a career-high 34
points, and Colorado hit nine 3-pointers to advance to the round of
16.
Colorado (24-7), the No. 6 seed, goes to Knoxville, Tenn.,
reaching the regional semifinals for the sixth time in its last
eight NCAA tournament appearances.
North Carolina (28-6), the No. 3 seed, was led by Nikita Bell
and Candace Sutton, who each scored 12 points. Bell also had 10
rebounds.
Bjorklund, the Buffaloes' 6-foot-5 junior center, was 11-of-14
from the floor and 12-of-17 from the line. She also had eight
rebounds, four blocked shots and two steals.<

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (AP) Erika Valek scored 24 points, Mary
Jo Noon had 17 and Beth Jones added 16 as Purdue advanced to the
round of 16 for the eighth time.
The second-seeded Boilermakers (28-5) will play the winner of
Tuesday's game between Notre Dame and Kansas State. If the Irish
win, it would be a rematch of the 2001 national championship game.
Chrystal Starling led the seventh-seeded Hokies (22-10) with 16
points and Kerri Gardin added 12. The Hokies were making their
first tournament appearance in two years.
The Boilermakers received a scare when their 17-point lead was
slashed to five, but still finished the season 15-0 at home.<
^Boston College 86, Vanderbilt 85, OT=
NORFOLK, Va. (AP) Amber Jacobs made a high-arching layup with
2.5 seconds left in overtime, lifting Boston College to a comeback
victory over Vanderbilt in the East Regional.
The fifth-seeded Eagles (22-8) advanced to the round of the 16
for the first time in five trips to the tournament, and got both
victories on game-winning shots by Jacobs. The junior guard stunned
regional host Old Dominion 73-72 by making a jumper with 3.3
seconds to play in the first round.
Vanderbilt (22-10) had taken a 85-84 lead on Hillary Hager's
fifth 3-pointer in as many tries with 12.7 seconds to play in the
extra period. The fourth-seeded Commodores were denied a third
straight trip to the round of 16.
Jacobs scored 25 points for the Eagles, 18 after halftime. Becky
Gottstein added 24 points and eight rebounds. Chantelle Anderson
led Vanderbilt with 28 points and Benningfield had 26.<

^Georgia 74, Rutgers 64=
ATHENS, Ga. (AP) Christi Thomas, Alexis Kendrick and Ebony
Felder each scored 17 points as fifth-seeded Georgia advanced to
the round of 16 for the 13th time.
Georgia (21-9) likely will be without starting guard Sherrill
Baker, who left early in the second half with a separated right
shoulder. The Lady Bulldogs have been without leading scorer Kara
Braxton since February when coach Andy Landers kicked her off the
team for violating unspecified team rules.
Chelsea Newton led Rutgers (21-8) with 19 points. Cappie
Pondexter scored 15 points but fouled out with 46 seconds remaining
and Georgia leading 69-60.<
^New Mexico 73, Mississippi State 61=
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) Jordan Adams scored 19 points and New
Mexico hit 13 3-pointers as the sixth-seeded Lobos (24-8) advance
to the round of 16.
Before its 91-85 overtime win over Miami on Saturday, New Mexico
had never won a game in the NCAA tournament.
New Mexico stunned the Lady Bulldogs (24-8) early by hitting
their first six 3-pointers and 10 of their first 12 shots. New
Mexico, playing on its home court before a frenzied sellout crowd
of 16,214, hit nine 3s in the first half.
All-American LaToya Thomas scored 29 points and had 16 rebounds
to lead the Lady Bulldogs, while guard Tan White finished with 17
points and nine rebounds.<

^LSU 80, Wis.-Green Bay 69=
EUGENE, Ore. (AP) Doneeka Hodges had 20 points as LSU held off
surprisingly resilient Wisconsin-Green Bay.
Chandra Johnson had 29 points for eighth-seeded Wisconsin-Green
Bay (28-4), which had won 12 straight games dating back to Jan. 25
including a first-round victory against Washington.
Green Bay threatened again when Kristy Loiselle nailed a 3 and
Chandra Johnson added a jumper to make it 59-54. But LSU (29-3)
never let the Phoenix get any closer.<
^Minnesota 68, Stanford 56=
STANFORD, Calif. (AP) Corrin Von Wald scored 19 points,
including six free throws in the final minute, as Minnesota
defeated third-seeded Stanford.
The sixth-seeded Golden Gophers (22-11) ended Stanford's 26-game
home winning streak, including 15 straight this season. The
Cardinal hadn't been beaten in Maples Pavilion since losing to
Tennessee on Dec. 16, 2001.
Stanford (27-5) couldn't overcome sloppy ballhandling, long
shooting droughts and the foul trouble of star forward Nicole
Powell, who only played 31 minutes and finished with 19 points,
seven rebounds, two assists and two steals. She also committed five
turnovers.
Lindsay Whalen added 13 points and six assists, Shannon
Schonrock 12 points and Kadidja Andersson 11 for Minnesota.<
