Niners match Lions' offer sheet for long snapper Jennings

Wednesday April 23, 2003

SANTA CLARA, Calif. (AP) The San Francisco 49ers matched the Detroit Lions' offer sheet to long snapper Brian Jennings on Wednesday.

Jennings, a fourth-year pro, will make $805,000 this season. He is considered one of the NFL's top long snappers.

``Brian Jennings is an integral part of our kicking game, and we felt it was important for us to keep him,'' 49ers general manager Terry Donahue said. ``We hope that he remains a 49er for a long time.''

If the 49ers hadn't matched the offer sheet, they would have received a seventh-round draft pick as compensation for the restricted free agent.
