Earthquakes forward out for the season with injured knee

Friday April 04, 2003

SAN JOSE, Calif. (AP) -- San Jose Earthquakes forward Dwayne De Rosario suffered a torn ligament in his right knee and is expected to be out for the season, the team announced Friday.

DeRosario, also a member of the Canadian National Team, suffered the injury while playing in a scrimmage against San Jose State University last week.

He had also been recovering from a broken bone in his right foot.

The Earthquakes' head coach Frank Yallop called the news ``devastating.'' The team's physician will perform surgery on De Rosario's knee on Monday.

De Rosario has played two seasons with the Earthquakes, scoring nine goals and registering two assists.
