Wizards 1, Earthquakes 1

Sunday April 20, 2003

SAN JOSE, Calif. (AP) Brian Mullan scored in the 81st minute as the San Jose Earthquakes overcame an own goal to tie the Kansas City Wizards 1-1 on Saturday night.

Kansas City took the lead in the 74th minute when San Jose goalkeeper Pat Onstad knocked the ball into his own goal.

Onstad leaped and deflected Wizard forward Preki's corner kick high into the air. When it came down, Onstad tried to punch the ball back over the bar, but deflected it into the net.

San Jose rallied to tie it on Mullan's first goal of the season. Landon Donovan started a run near midfield and passed to Mullan, who fired the ball to the right of goalkeeper Tony Meola.

Both teams are 1-0-1.
