Diego Serna traded to Galaxy
Friday August 08, 2003
CARSON, Calif. (AP) The Los Angeles Galaxy acquired forward
Diego Serna from the New England Revolution on Friday for two
conditional selections in the MLS SuperDraft.
Serna most recently played with Deportivo Independiente Medellin
of the Colombian First Division. Serna is expected to be in uniform
Saturday night when the Galaxy host the Columbus Crew.
The 29-year-old has 54 goals and 40 assists in 113 MLS games
over five seasons with New England, the MetroStars and the
now-defunct Miami Fusion. He shares the league record with five
three-goal games.
``We are extremely pleased to be able to add a player of Diego's
abilities and MLS experience at this stage of the season,'' Galaxy
general manager Doug Hamilton said. ``He is an imposing forward who
brings a proven history of scoring goals and a knack for causing
immeasurable difficulties to defenders.
``Pairing him with Carlos (Ruiz) up front will give us one of
the most lethal one-two scoring combinations in the entire
league.''
