Kiraly-Doble win Huntington Beach Open

Sunday August 17, 2003

HUNTINGTON BEACH, Calif. (AP) Karch Kiraly and Brent Doble beat Todd Rogers and Sean Scott 21-16, 21-16 to win the Huntington Beach Pro Volleyball Open on Sunday.

Kiraly, who is the career leader in beach volleyball titles with 144, won for the first time since June 2002 at Santa Barbara.

``This was a hard earned victory because we've had some heartbreaking losses early this season,'' said the 42-year-old Kiraly, the only volleyball player to earn three gold medals in the Olympics. ``I've conditioned harder this year than ever before and it's paying off. I feel more explosive on the court. I feel like I'm turning back the clock and that's not easy to do after 40.''
