Calif attorney general marries pregnant girlfriend
Saturday April 19, 2003
SACRAMENTO (AP) Attorney General Bill Lockyer married an
Orange County civil rights attorney Friday in a private ceremony in
Northern California, according to newspaper reports.
The Orange County Register reported that Lockyer, 61 married
Nadia Maria Davis, 31, in a small wedding with family and friends
in attendance.
``Their plans will be to spend a lot of time together, but
they'll be working out (where they live),'' said his spokesman
Nathan Barankin. ``(The wedding) has been in the works for a
while.''
Lockyer resides in Hayward. Davis lives in Santa Ana.
The two met during Democratic Party activities and are expecting
a baby late this summer, Barankin said.
Lockyer has been married twice before and has been divorced for
more than 20 years. He has a grown daughter. It is Davis' first
marriage.
Davis is a former Santa Ana school board member who began
raising money last summer for a possible state Assembly campaign.
Lockyer formed a committee in January to raise money to run for
governor in 2006.
Asked how Lockyer would balance his new responsibilities and his
political aspirations, Barankin said he planned to be the ``best
attorney general he can be, and he's also committed to being the
best husband and father he can be.''
The wedding occurred the same day that Lockyer announced the
arrest of Scott Peterson in the highly publicized disappearance of
Peterson's wife Laci, who was eight months pregnant when she was
reported missing Christmas Eve. The arrest came hours before DNA
analysis confirmed her death and that of her infant son.
Lockyer said Peterson was arrested because he was considered a
flight risk and had recognized that he was under police
surveillance.
