Authorities identify girl whose burned body found with gunshot wounds in L.A. alley

Monday April 21, 2003

LOS ANGELES (AP) The burned body of a teenage girl found with gunshot wounds in a city alley has been identified, officials said.

An autopsy found that Veronica Lujano, 17, had been shot several times in the head and then set on fire, said Lt. Mike Riddle of the Los Angeles County Coroner's Office.

Firefighters responding to a fire in an alley early Saturday morning found Lujano's body and police homicide investigators later determined that she had been shot.

Lujano lived in south Los Angeles with her father, Riddle said.

No arrests have been made and police have no suspects in the case.

The alley where Lujano was found is located about 10 miles south of downtown Los Angeles on South Central Avenue.
