Monday June 16, 2003
HESPERIA, Calif. (AP) A fire scorched 80 acres of brush and
grass, including about 10 acres inside the San Bernardino National
Forest.
The blaze, which erupted Sunday, was contained by midnight and
was expected to be out completely by Monday evening, said Capt.
Mike Sweeney of the California Department of Forestry.
About 220 firefighters were called in after the fire broke out
at 5 p.m. Sunday behind several trailer homes and recreational
vehicles in the Mojave River Valley near Highway 173. Helicopters,
air tankers and bulldozers aided the effort.
The cause was under investigation.
