Woman pleads innocent to allegedly throwing child into SF Bay waterway

Tuesday April 22, 2003

VALLEJO, Calif. (AP) A woman pleaded innocent Monday to attempted murder charges filed after she allegedly threw her 3-year-old son into a San Francisco Bay waterway last week.

Cheauvon Brown was arraigned here Monday and after a public defender entered her innocent plea, her bail was set at $500,000.

A passerby rescued Brown's son from Mare Island Strait on Thursday after she allegedly tossed the tot over a seawall railing. The boy, who sank into the opaque water, was not seriously hurt.

Brown has a history of violent behavior, according to police records, though officials have not offered a motive for the alleged crime.

A preliminary hearing was scheduled for May 23.
