Web sites of Dean, other candidates
Friday August 15, 2003
HOWARD DEAN ON THE INTERNET:
WEB SITE (http://deanforamerica.com): Goes beyond typical
campaign offerings with features like searchable database of local
events. In late June, its home page turned into a fund-raising
telethon.
BLOG (http://blogforamerica.com): A running collection of
campaign happenings near and far from the physical candidate.
Dean has even done a ``guest blog'' for Lawrence Lessig, a Stanford
Law professor with a wide tech following.
MEETUP (http://dean2004.meetup.com): Supporters unaffiliated
with the campaign found one another through the Web site and began
meeting informally once a month. About 100 supporters gathered in
11 cities in February. Tens of thousands showed up in about 400
cities on Aug. 6. The campaign uses Meetup to organize volunteers
and negate the need for staff and costly field offices.
MOVEON (http://moveon.org): The unaffiliated political site held
an online primary in late June. Dean won the most votes, 44 percent
of the total and just short of the majority needed to win the
organization's endorsement and financial boost.
WIRELESS (http://wireless.deanforamerica.com): Cell phone
subscribers can sign up for text alerts of upcoming appearances and
national and regional events. One recent message encouraged
recipients to call in during Dean's appearance on CNN's ``Larry
King Live.''
DEAN TV (http://howarddean.tv): Video of television ads and
major Dean appearances.
