Man found dead after allegedly opening fire in SoCal department store

Saturday April 19, 2003

RIVERSIDE, Calif. (AP) A man allegedly opened fire in a department store Friday before locking himself in an office and apparently turning the gun on himself.

No other injuries were reported.

Police said they received numerous 911 calls beginning at 1:47 p.m. regarding shots fired inside Robinson's May at the Galleria at the Tyler shopping center. When SWAT officers arrived, they discovered a man had barricaded himself inside an administrative office.

The officers entered the office and discovered the man dead with what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the upper torso. His identity was not immediately released.

Information on the shooting was sketchy but police said they had learned the man might have once been employed by Robinson's May.
