Ten people wounded in shooting at Carson birthday party
Sunday June 22, 2003
CARSON, Calif. (AP) Two men fired into a crowded birthday
party early Sunday, wounding 10 people, four of them critically,
authorities said.
No arrests were immediately made.
The men showed up at the home in a quiet residential
neighborhood and told partygoers milling in the driveway and garage
that they were in a gang neighborhood, sheriff's Sgt. John Swanson
said.
The men left but returned about a half-hour later, at 1 a.m.,
with handguns and began shooting into a crowd of 50 to 75 people,
Swanson said.
Ten people, ranging in age from 17 to 24, were rushed to
hospitals. At least two people were shot in the back and chest. The
others were grazed or shot in the arms or legs. All were expected
to survive, Swanson said.
Carson is about 18 miles south of downtown Los Angeles.
