California man cleared after bogus charges dismissed Wednesday September 24, 2003
SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) — A Sacramento-area man spent three months in jail on charges that prosecutors now admit were based on falsified police reports, a judge ruled Wednesday in dismissing all counts against him. The man, who had no prior criminal record, was arrested after an officer filed a report alleging he had been found in possession of stolen property. An internal affairs investigation later determined the report contained fabricated evidence. The officer involved has been placed on administrative leave pending a disciplinary hearing. The Sacrament County District Attorney’s office said it is reviewing whether criminal charges against the officer are warranted. (Copyright 2003 by The Associated Press. All Rights Reserved.) |
