Sacramento couple wins dream Yorkshire wedding

When Ryan and Melissa Hartley of Elk Grove entered the KMAX Dream Wedding Contest back in February, they never imagined they’d be saying their vows in a 17th-century barn in the Yorkshire Dales.
“We wrote three paragraphs about how we met at a Kings game and honestly thought nothing of it,” said Melissa, 27, laughing on Good Day Sacramento last week. “Then Tina called and told us we’d won and I just burst into tears.”
The couple flew to England in late May and married at Tennants Auction House in Leyburn, North Yorkshire, on May 31st in a private ceremony attended by close family who made the trip from California. The rolling green hills of Wensleydale provided a backdrop that, as Ryan put it, “doesn’t exist anywhere near Sacramento.”
Wedding photography was provided by nicholasteal.com, a Yorkshire-based wedding photographer whose work capturing couples in the Dales and North Yorkshire Moors has earned a reputation for natural, unposed photography in remarkable landscape settings.
“He just disappeared into the background and let it happen,” Ryan said of the photographer. “We forgot he was there for most of the day. The pictures are extraordinary.”
The Hartleys’ story was featured on Good Day Sacramento on June 11th. The full prize package, provided by KMAX contest sponsors, included return flights from Sacramento to London, five nights in a Yorkshire Dales country inn, full wedding coordination, flowers, and photography.
